Five Point Someone

Five Point Someone: Chetan Bhagat Book

five point someone book summary

Summary

The novel Five Point Someone, written by Chetan Bhagat, is set at the Indian Institute Of Technology, India's leading engineering school. The Three Idiots was eventually made into a popular film.

What is 'Five Point Someone' about?

Ryan Oberoi, a brilliant yet free-spirited student, is the protagonist of the narrative. True education, he says, comes from critical thinking and enjoying life rather than memorizing formulae and textbooks. Ryan and his pals are ecstatic at the prospect of attending the famous IIT, but they had no clue how much pressure they would face.

Is Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat a good read?

I liked this book a lot because the characters are so real, and being a student myself, I can understand their stress. There are several amusing instances, including one in which Ryan alters a few essential words in a speech to be delivered by a rival named Chatur. This makes the speech ridiculous and causes the entire room to erupt in laughter. The Number Five Someone also deals with the significant issue of school stress and the suffocation of students' creativity.

Why was Chetan Bhagat's five-point someone a big hit?

A narrative about relationships written by a man is always a welcome addition to the world's bookshelves. You have to roll out the red carpet when the writer is an Indian-origin investment banker working for an American bank who wants to make art rather than just purchase it. It's usually a good thing to deconstruct a stereotype, and Chetan Bhagat's debut novel achieves precisely that. It's a narrative about three buddies who bridge the gap between "intellectual overachievers" and regular humans.

Hari, Alok, and Ryan are "five-point someone" attempting to stay afloat in an institution where the average grade is 6.5 on a 10-point scale, despite their evident brilliance in getting into IIT.

In every aspect, Hari, the narrator, is caught between his two best pals. Ryan is a brilliant, creative, affluent, and attractive student whose wealthy parents lavish him with gifts but not enough affection. He stands to gain nothing by inventing schemes to overthrow the wicked grading system that "kills the greatest enjoyable years of your life," not to mention creativity and innovation. Which he has in plenty.

"Fatso" Alok is impoverished, with a paralyzed father, a sister to marry off, and a mother who works long hours at a low-paying job while wiping her tears away with the edge of her sari. Though he previously aspired to be an artist, Alok is now driven by a single goal: to achieve excellent grades in order to obtain a "US scholarship," a decent job, and relief from his family's unrelenting financial hardship.

Needless to say, Alok and Ryan have a falling out, leaving Hari in the midst. The story is packed with all the enjoyable stuff that "muggus" like Venkat forego-vodka, marijuana, sports, ragging, pranks, porn, raging hormones, movies, and love-a mirror to all that is wrong, notably a work ethic that leaves little time for oneself and one's friendships. Real Life, to be precise."Let's face it, girls are stunning. Without them, life is utterly pointless "Hari adds. His paramour, Neha, is the scary Professor Cherian's toe-ring-wearing, ice-cream-slurping, beautiful, artsy, slightly neurotic daughter. Neha's character is a sympathetic representation of what it's like to be young and feminine in an overprotective, patriarchal environment, torn between being a nice girl who desires to do evil things, as many are. Of course, just as Hari earns her confidence (and so loses his virginity), he loses her and finds himself in trouble with her father and the law as a result of one of Ryan's plots.

Expulsion threats and a suicide attempt bring the book to a climax. "GPAs create a good student, not a good person," the story implies, implying that too much judgment, condemnation, and expectation leads to desperate behavior. Although the writing can be abrupt and clunky at times—which could be intended in order to create a narrative of real vernacular speech—it is a well-constructed novel with engaging characters and a compelling plot. On a scale of one to ten, this is definitely a five-star rating.

Is Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat a good read?

Five Point is plainly a poor book for somebody, but Bhagat's voices – Hari's voice is very fascinating – and the happy-go-lucky, campus-novel nostalgia (“I may be out of IIT, but in some ways, my spirit is still there,” Hari remarked thoughtfully towards the conclusion) hit enough notes and give it an unmistakable appeal. The messages it communicates are horrible – it is highly unpleasant in its absence of a moral code, and even generous gestures of friendship are frequently random or misled – and there is much in writing. However, it is undoubtedly readable, and even has a rather intriguing plot with all its problems.

The controversy of the five-point someone

However, a few days after the film's premiere, a dispute erupted over Chetan's credit, "Based on the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat," which appeared in the closing credits rather than the opening ones. "I was anticipating an opening credit and was pretty startled when I didn't see it," Bhagat said at the time. According to Bhagat, he was told that the film was just 2–5% based on the novel, but after seeing it, he believed it was 70% accurate. He also claimed that the film's producers deceived him, but he clarified that "this has nothing to do with Mr.Aamir Khan; I am a huge fan of Aamir, and he has helped my narrative reach people." The producers, on the other hand, advised him not to read the book, which he did not do.

"We have officially purchased the rights for the picture," Rajkumar Hirani said. We put up a contract with him that makes it clear where his credit stands. He had seen the document with wide eyes, contacted his lawyer, and signed the contract. We agreed in the deal that the title would be revealed in the rolling credits. The font size has not been altered. The title's pace has not been improved. It's precisely where we agreed it would be." Legal records pertaining to Bhagat's relationship with the filmmakers have also been uploaded to the Vinod Chopra Productions website.

Death An Inside Story

Death An Inside Story: Sadhguru

death sadhguru

People seek spirituality, according to the author, since they are aware that they eventually die.

What Exactly Is Death?

The most fundamental question is about death. People, on the other hand, can choose to ignore it, avoid it, and continue to live in ignorance since all kinds of ridiculous tales have been propagated across the world in the name of religion.

The Most Fundamental Question Concerning Death

do you have any idea that you will die one day? Oh, I wish you a long life, but you will die at some point. We cant be sure about other things in your life. We don't know if you'll marry or not, whether you'll obtain a job or not, whether you'll be successful or not, but one thing is certain in your life:In the world, two people die every second. And one day, it will happen to you and me as well. Knowing this does not need extensive investigation, intellect, or even education. Every human being possesses this information. Despite this, we believe humans have an indefinite life span. The Mahabharata, an Indian epic, perfectly expresses this predicament.

Death An Inside Story Summary: Sadhguru

The book's slogan also reads, "A book for all those who will die." When people asked Sadhguru questions about death, rebirths, previous incarnations, and other topics, he would laugh about it and go on to the next inquiry. I had assumed that Sadhguru did not believe in any of this, but this full-fledged book had come as a complete surprise to me, therefore I was looking forward to reading it.

When it comes to Death, you'd think someone could describe it in 40-50 pages, and what else could there be to say about something that happens so quickly that we don't even notice it? Also, we believe that Death is the end, so why dwell on it? All we desire is to be healthy when we die.But Sadhguru takes us on a 375-page journey to explain something about this one-word phenomenon known as "Death." That's enormous!

I've never believed that living and dying are spiritually distinct experiences, and that if we live well, our death has nothing to do with it, and that our next life, if one exists, would be based on how we lived our prior life. Through this book, I've come to understand how we die and what happens to us in the moments leading up to and even days after we die.

Even if we have led a spiritually good life, it has an influence on our soul and energy, and it might be important for them to survive happily after we die. Sadhguru approaches all issues in a lighthearted and enlightening manner, making it simple for us to read the book, even if a few chapters are a little heavy or gloomy to understand and swallow. The concepts of numerous karmas, koshas, kinds of bodies, Vayus, chakras, and how death occurs at one of these concepts' stages has an impact on our energies later on astounded me. Sadhguru is also unafraid to speak openly about rebirth, reincarnation, samadhi, mahasamadhi, ghosts, spirits, suicide, murder, and the afterlife.

He also discloses how his wife, as well as a number of other close friends and family members, willingly left their bodies in that state. He also talks about how select persons in higher positions of administration may have their bodies vanish in an instant.

Now, in terms of certain flaws,

I must mention that this book is intended for individuals who have already read or heard Sadhguru; otherwise, understanding his terminology would be difficult. Second, most of the time Sadhguru does not go into depth just to pique people's interest and encourage them to visit the Isha Yoga centre or enrol in his classes in order to have a deeper understanding of the subject. If you are a spiritual person, I feel that your book should be free – if not, at the very least, don't use it as a brochure for your foundation's many programmes. Finally, a couple of the occurrences that Sadhguru mentions, such as individuals leaving their bodies or burning and then vanishing in front of him, appear to be false because there is no proof and no one has told us about such events occurring in front of them.I realise that we are not spiritually grown enough to know whether or not anything is genuine, but things like this should be expressed with proofs or references. Also, I couldn't agree with a lot of what he says about himself in terms of previous lives and how he has already lived more than he needs to and will never return to the earth.

Sadhguru book review summary ending

“There is no doubt that whatever occurs spontaneously is always correct. It's just that your short-term goals and ambitions may be out of sync with what's going on, causing you to struggle. But it can't be inaccurate in the true sense. Nature does not make decisions based on ideas and emotions, thus it always progresses in the proper direction. It just makes decisions based on your preferences.

Sadhguru's Death: An Inside Story is more akin to a symbolic present that keeps unravelling as each layer of wrapping is unwrapped. The depth of one's knowledge, amount of spiritual engagement, and rigidity of underlying belief systems all influence how long it takes (months or years) to unravel each layer of packaging and reach the main message (maybe).

It lives up to its title, "A book for All Those Who Will Die," by providing a unique perspective on many neglected themes through Sadhguru's Yogic knowledge, long before one is forced to face the inevitable. As a result, it's a good idea to reread at regular intervals to see how much has unravelled since the last reading and how much still has to be unravelled.

Writer, storyteller, architect, violinist and harmonium - musician, a good humorist and a great photographer. Beautiful roads, beautiful buildings, beautiful decorations and a love of people who are beautiful at heart. That is why their stories are based on these beautiful minds and thoughts. Kangaroo of the mind can be presented due to good observation. Humorous stories also have an edge of truth.

While reading Vapu, this is the way of life, it is easily understood in simple words. Many people consider Vapu, who shows many 'colors of mind', as their partner. This partner is still deeply ingrained in the minds of many. That is why the thoughts of the characters in the stories they have read are not left alone but are spreading the smell of those thoughts to all of us. Even if you are a little pleased with the smell, pass it on to your loved ones and make them happy too. And if the smell of these thoughts does not reach, then that

What is love?

Seeing your image in someone else's eyes.

Mani, why are you given life? Life is an incarnation to love. And love is about finding the person you want to see in your own eyes, and first of all, keeping your own glasses clean. The eyes are the heart. Eyes are the windows of that vast mind. Anyone should peek through that window. He should see the space.

You also need a mirror to recognize your own face. There is no other faithful trustee in the world. You want to be a mirror too. You have to see the reflection of the mind in it. I wanted to see all the forms of anger, competition, envy, mastery, love. You make up your mind. Being a trustee is not a scam. Then the true mind appears. Wife, son, mother, father, all relationships become clear. I want to see how much space someone has left.

Husband does not love wife. He loves himself. Husband uses his wife as a medium. He considers his wife as his own jewel. He is ready to sacrifice his life for his wife. To what extent As long as she's his. I understood that her mind was attracted to other men. So what A husband who is generous to his wife will go out to strangle her. Love and Ghruna exchange moments. If hatred, anger is created instead of love in just a moment, then what kind of love? The scope of love is huge.

Our existence in this world is not without reason, it is known only by looking into the eyes of another.

We want to live with the awareness that we want someone.

She realized that the moment she realized that she was an infinity. `One Moment 'is a brief incarnation of that eternity. That is why when he is touched by love, he becomes enlightened.

The owner is relieved. The one who is a slave keeps his wealth. In the realm of love, there is great fun. The more you give, the more you get back. Yet the giver and the taker are superior in this.

 How superior is the taker?

He may reject your gift. If he donates, he can refuse. If he donates, he can refuse. If you go to offer a heart, you can give it back in a thousand pieces. That's why if your love is honored, then your feet on the ground will be released, won't it? Now tell me who is older.

No matter how thoughtful a person may say, he cannot think beyond a certain limit. What exactly is thought? Seventy to eighty percent of people live a simple life. The whole day's routine determines your movements, not the direction of your thoughts. Rite would say that the brain is free from thought. To do something wrong is to think.

Some problems can be solved by consultation. That advice is not the only one we have. Because there is no single bond, we go around asking for advice and raising the heads of many.

The confusion of the questioner grows.

The ego of the counselor.

I am a pilgrim, so calm. A quiet person does not have to be happy. The definition of peace for most is ‘lack of unrest’. So they are quiet. Marriage means that a man becomes a husband for the first time and a woman becomes a wife. Neither has experience in these positions. Only strong, unruly force makes men and women paralyzed, poor. Marriages take place in the same deaf and impatient state of mind. Sometimes it would swell. This is actually a sample dose of the upcoming struggle.

I changed - this statement contained "I". Love is higher than tools. Why?

Sadhana has to be done. I “came. Hewlett doesn't even know when a man falls in love

The world is a course. An unfinished course. That's it. The text will change daily. I used to take exams every day. It has no curriculum, no degree, no diploma, no guide, we are sitting on a never ending course. What if we treated each other like examiners? In every family, husbands and wives look at each other's jokes like examiners. Who cares. Then see how I make or break. The same everywhere.

The world will give a question paper every day, at that time. Unbreakable

Parents always call their children my children, children call their father a father, this is a different value of life. Fish roam freely in the water. They catch fish by heart. It is surrounded on all four sides. They don’t keep the fish away from you. The spider's web may not seem like an attraction, but it does. That's why I don't say anything about those who are forced to stay away from their parents. But if the fish that someone swallows is attracted to it, then the water that holds the heart for a lifetime is something.

Life is a competition of two needs. Mother, father, husband, son, daughter, wife are all meaningless cute words. The one who needs it first leaves you.

The meaning of life isn’t a ready-made product .there is no divine script , and nothing outside me can give meaning to my life .it is I who imbue(to feel somebody / something with deep feeling, strong opinion or ideas or particular sense of value ) everything with meaning through my free choices and through my own feeling .  page no. 298

It is our own human fingers that wrote the Bible, the Quran and the Vedas . and it is our mind that give these stories power.
They are no doubt beautiful stories, but their beauty is strictly in the eyes of the beholder.
Jerusalem , mecca , Varanasi , and bodh gaya are sacred places , but only because of the feelings human experience when they go there

In itself , the universe is only a meaningless hodge – podge of atoms . nothing is beautiful , sacred or sexy but human feelings make it so.

But if by ‘free will ‘ you mean the freedom to choose what to desire – then no, humans have no free will. Page no.299

If you really want to understand yourself, you  should not identify with your facebook account or account or with the inner story of the self

·        Instead you should observe the actual flows of body and mind . you will see thoughts emotions and desire appear and disappear without much reason and without any command from you , just as different winds blow from this or that direction and mess up your hair.

·        And just as you are not the winds so also your are not a jumble of thoughts , emotions and desire you experience and you are certainly not the sanitised story you tell about them with hidsight

·        You experience all off them but you don’t control them , you don’t down them and you are not them.

·   people ask ‘who am I ?’ and expect to be told a story . the first thing you need to know about yourself, is that you are not a story.

·        The budhha taught that the three basic realities of the universe are that everything is constantly changing , nothing has any enduring essence and nothing completely satisfying.

·        You can explore further reaches of the galaxy , of your body or of your mind but you never encounter something that completely satisfies you.

·        Suffering emerges because people fail to appreciate this

·        They believe that there is some eternal essence  somewhere and if they can only find it and connect to it , the will be completely satisfied

·         The more disappointed and miserable they become due to the failure to find

·        Worse yet the greater the hatred such people develop towards any person ,group or institution and seems to stands between then and their cherished goal

·        According to budhha , then life has no meaning and people don’t need to create any meaning , they just need to realise that there is no meaning and thus be liberated from the suffering caused by our attachment and our identification with empty phenomena

·        What should I do ? ask people and budhha advise , do nothing absolutely nothing . the whole problem that we constantly do something. To really do nothing means that mind too does nothing and creates nothing

·         When you give up all the fictional stories , you can observe reality with far greater clarity then before  and if you really know the truth about yourself and about the world ,nothing can make you miserable.
The most real thing in this world is suffering
If you want to know truth about universe , about the meaning of life , and about your own identity the best place is to start is by observing suffering and exploring what is is.

·        Yet the real enigma of life is not what happens after you die , but what happens before you die, if you want to understand death , you need to understand life.

·         If you can understand what happens to you as one moment ends and another moment begins – you will also understand what will happens to you at the moment of death. If you can really observe yourself for the duration of single breath – you will understand it all.

·        When I want something and it dosent happen my mind react by generating suffering , suffering is not an objective condition in the outside world . it is mental reaction generated by  my own mind

·         Between me and the world there are always body sensation.

·        Secular education  teaches children to distinguish truth from belief; to develop their compassion for all suffering beings ; to appreciate the wisdom and experience of all the earths denizens to think freely without fearing the unknown and to take responsibility for their action and for the world as a whole.
